The SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) is a franchise cricket team based in Hyderabad, Telangana, that plays in the Indian Premier League (IPL). This is owned by Kalanithi Maran of the Sun TV channel Network and was founded in 2012 after the Hyderabad-based Deccan Chargers were terminated by the IPL. The team made an appearance in the IPL playoffs in its first season in 2013 and won its maiden title in the 2016 season.
The team is currently coached by Tom Moody. The primary home ground of the team is the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad.
Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium is the principal cricket stadium in Hyderabad, Telangana, India and is the home ground of the Sunrisers Hyderabad. It is owned by the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA). It is located in the eastern suburb Uppal and has a seating capacity of 65,000.
In 2015, Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium which is located in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh is selected as the Secondary Home Ground for Sunrisers Hyderabad. It has a seating capacity of 38,000. In 2015, Sunrisers Hyderabad played their first 3 home games at this ground.
In 2017, As the Sunrisers Hyderabad are the Defending Champions, as per IPL norms, Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium is awarded to host the Opener and Final match of the season.
SunRisers Hyderabad – IPL 2017 season:
SRH has retained 17 players and released 6 players from the Champions squad. Due to this effort SRH Spent Rs 451 million (US$7.0 million) and kept the balance Rs 209 million (US$3.3 million)
Sunrisers finished 3rd on points table. Sunrisers lost against the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Eliminator at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore in a rain-hit match. The SunRisers made a below-par total of 128–7 in 20 overs, but the Kolkata Knight Riders’ innings was reduced to 6 overs. The revised total was 48, which the Knight Riders won by 7 Wickets with 4 balls remaining.
SunRisers Hyderabad – IPL 2018 season:
For this season Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals are re-included in 2018 league after serving two years of suspension from the competition due to the involvement of their players in the 2013 IPL betting scandal and IPL governing council decided that maximum of five players can be retained by each IPL team. SRH has retained only 2 players and released all remaining players from the squad. SRH spent Rs 20.5 Crore, this led Rs 21 Crore detected from purse and remain Rs 59 Crore in purse to go to 2018 IPL Auctions and three Right-to-Match (RTM) cards.
